Today, I’m 22 Kilos lighter – join me on my Journey
My story is not one of overnight success. I didn’t take a magic pill. My results were not from a fad diet or a product from an infomercial. My journey has been more like a roller coaster ride of trials, many errors, and a collection of small milestones along the way, eventually leading to more than I ever expected to gain.
I had left corporate after 25years to start a Medical and Aesthetic clinic with my business partner Nix a huge decision to make to start a business. We started the clinic in October 2018. It was an extremely traumatic time for me as I lost my father to cancer 2 weeks before opening the clinic and then my father-in-law a week after my father passed away. Trying to focus and start a business was extremely overwhelming, and food was my vice, eating everything in sight to try to compensate. I had a severe burnout and my health was suffering
I was feeling unhappy starting to lose my self-esteem, trapped beneath baggy t-shirts and stretchy jeans, and desperate to lose weight to just be normal. I had no idea that it would turn into a journey of self-discovery, freedom, and finding joy.
Oh yeah, and 22kg weight loss.
My Wake Up Call
I fell into the habit of getting takeaways eating out for lunch and only working out occasionally. And to be honest, my version of working out was just a light walk here and there to stay semi-active. The weight crept up on me slowly, and I didn’t really realize how much weight I had gained until I stepped on the scale to find I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life. What happened? Where did this come from? How did this happen? I sat there wondering, “How do I come back from this?”
I woke up one morning in 2021 and at the age of 55 finally realized this was not who I am. I wasn’t happy and I didn’t want to lie to myself anymore. I hated getting ready in the morning, spending most of my time pulling my clinging clothes off my body to loosen them just a little bit more. It was time for me to make a change in my life.
I knew I had to start taking control of my life so started my journey with a Life repair course. I was sorting out my mind I had to start sorting my body.
My First Step
My first step was to do the ALT-X Rapid Health Stress Scanner which gives a ‘snapshot’ picture of my overall health status and red flags medical risk factors. The results are displayed immediately and to my horror what I saw was not good, my toxicity in my body was unbelievable, and my adrenals were under immense stress which affected my thyroid, hormones, and brain function. I was vitamin deficient and had high inflammation in my body, no wonder I was feeling awful. I didn’t want to get up in the mornings.
Time to start Vitamin Drips
This was necessary to address the deficiencies in my body and yes to “ lose weight”.
I started with a group of friends on 19th Jan 2021 with a eating plan, doing it with a group of friends was great motivation, we weighed weekly together shared our recipes, and were there to support one another along the way, we made it a motivating fun process and set ourselves individual goals. In addition to this I also started a program of Hydrogen Peroxide to detox and booster drips to build my immune system..
I set myself a goal that by April 2021 come my birthday I needed to have lost 10kg’s. I achieved this goal and continued setting goals along the way working towards my ultimate goal to have lost 22kg by November 2022.
Cellulite & Sagging Skin
As I had so much weight to lose, I was concerned about my cellulite, sagging skin, and the difficult areas of fat that I needed to get rid of. I started addressing this from the beginning of my journey with body sculpting treatments on the BTL X-Wave and BTL Exilis Elite for fat burning and tightening of the skin and Lymphatic drainage treatments to help get rid of the toxins in my body.
Looking back, I am grateful I started doing these treatments from the beginning as I started losing the weight, this enabled me to address the firmness of my body.
Not about the weight but Freedom
I’m doing things I never thought I was capable of – running 5-6km 3-4 times a week, up at 06h00 on a Sunday morning to exercise. It is not just about weight loss but being healthy and active and taking care of myself so that I can build the life I want to live.
It’s about seizing the day, instead of trying to hide, hoping no one will notice me.
It’s about being confident in who I’ve become and embracing both my strengths and my weaknesses.
I have just celebrated my 56th Birthday and my 30th wedding anniversary and instead of being scared to try new things, I’m eager to take advantage of new experiences. It’s about making good choices most of the time when it comes to both movement and nutrition, but not being a slave to counting calories or forbidding foods from my diet.
My weight loss journey has been so much bigger than the loss of 22kilos
- It gave me freedom and such deep joy.
- It improved my relationships.
- I feel so much better.
- It boosted my confidence.
- I learned how to find joy and satisfaction in self-control.
- It changed my life into one that I am in love with living.
And now, I want to pass that on to others. I want you to know that, no matter what your starting place is, you can find that freedom, too.
My number one piece of advice to start is to just start! It is as simple as that. Just start somewhere; it doesn’t matter where, just start!
Never Give Up On Yourself
Not giving up on myself was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My second time around, I learned to be more compassionate with myself, especially in the beginning. I constantly told myself that if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. I needed to be patient, because change doesn’t happen overnight. I would remind myself of what I felt like at my heaviest weight and how I promised myself I would never be there again—I would never give up on myself again, and I suggest you do the same!
