What is IPL Hair Removal?

Intensive Pulse Light (IPL) hair removal is a popular treatment for unwanted hair reduction and removal. IPL hair removal has come a long way since it was first introduced in the 90s, with results now more effective, for a more permanent hair reduction solution.

Nix&Tee uses the Exilite Intensive Pulse (IPL) device for hair reduction and hair removal.

IPL hair removal vs Laser

The great thing about IPL hair removal is that it offers the choice of multiple wavelengths, unlike laser treatments which use just one.  It is:

  • Suitable for various skin areas, skin types and different unwanted hair
  • IPL is often a quicker method than laser
  • It can cover large areas if you’re short on time.
  • Suitable for both females and males
  • Offer a more permanent solution for hair removal

How does IPL work?

The Exilite IPL device produces a broad spectrum of wavelengths (like a light bulb) into the skin, targeting melanin (the pigment) in hair. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, with the highest concentration targeted at the root/follicle of the hair. As the heat from the light weakens the root the hair falls out and is unable to re-grow in the same place.

The benefit of IPL Hair Removal

  • The wavelength can be specifically set to suit the client’s skin tone and hair type, making it safer and more effective.
  • It is a more permanent solution.
  • Our hair removal system has a large treatment head for larger areas so we can cover a lot of skin.
  • Our hair removal system combines IPL with radio frequency (RF) which intensifies the treatment and helps to smooth skin at the same time.

Where can I use IPL?

IPL gives effective results no matter where it’s administered on the body including areas such as the face, underarms, legs, bikini or back and shoulders for men.

What can I expect?

Our IPL hair removal treatments are quick. After having a full consultation, you lie back and relax. A cold gel is applied to the skin and then the treatment head is glided over the area.

Smaller areas such as underarms, bikini, half arms or lower legs take under 30mins and larger areas such as full legs and backs can be successfully treated in under an hour.

Number of treatments required for hair removal

The number of treatments you will require depends on the treatment area, skin type. A minimum of 5-7 treatments is required for the best results. Touch-ups can be booked if and when required.

Sessions are spaced out on average 3-6 weeks apart as hair grows in phases. This contributes to a more permanent hair removal.

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Do shave, before and during treatments. IPL works with hair in its growth stage while it is still attached to the follicle.
  • Don’t Go for IPL while pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Don’t be tempted by going for the cheapest offer out there, as if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
