What Is Exilite IPL Hair Removal
Intensive Pulse Light (IPL) is a popular treatment for hair reduction to eliminate unwanted hair. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, with the highest concentration located in the bulb (root) of the hair. As the heat from the light weakens the bulb, hair falls out and is unable to re-grow in the same place.
How does it work?
A hand held Exilite IPL device is moved across the skin delivering a spectrum of light that travels through the skin targeting the melanin in the bulb (root) of the hair. The light strikes the root where the highest concentration of melanin is located. The root absorbs the light and the hair is heated which destroys the papilla/follicle which produces the hair. The repeated damage causes the papilla/follicle to die and unwanted hair is unable to grow back
The Exilite IPL device is especially successful in the removal of unwanted hair, as we are able to specifically set the device to a wavelength that is suitable to a client’s skin color and hair type making it safer and more effective.
IPL hair removal has come a long way since it was first introduced in the 90s, with results now more effective – and more permanent.
IPL hair removal vs laser
The great thing about Exilite IPL hair removal is that it offers multiple wavelengths, unlike laser treatments which use just one at any given time. IPL hair removal is often a quicker method than laser over large areas, meaning it’s a great choice for you if you’re short on time.
How long does it take?
Exilite IPL hair removal treatments take between 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the area, bikini takes about 15 minutes and legs 45 minutes.
How many Exilite IPL treatments will I need?
The number of Exilite IPL treatments you require depends on the treatment area, skin type, and your specific concerns. After a thorough consultation, we will tailor a treatment plan that will help you achieve the results you desire. At least 4-8 treatments are required for the best results. Touch-ups will be required
Does it hurt?
The sensation is commonly described as a warm feeling or a small ping with an elastic band. The sensation is normally stronger during the first treatment. As the hair reduces the sensation becomes less. Exilite IPL hair removal treatments are generally seen as less painful than laser hair removal.
Is it safe?
IPL hair removal has been around for over twenty years and there is no evidence that IPL is unsafe. The treatment does not contain UVA or UVB light rays associated with an increase in skin cancer. There is no ultraviolet light and no damage to DNA cells.
Where can I have Exilite IPL Hair Removal on the body?
It gives effective results no matter where it’s administered on the body – including the face, underarms, legs or bikini for both Male and Females
Does the Exilite IPL treatment get rid of hair permanently?
This depends on the person and the area. Most people will require at least 4 -6 treatments to remove the majority of the hair in a specific area. Some people might require up to 10 sessions for troublesome areas. The IPL treatment targets the hair follicle and can only destroy active follicles. More follicles will probably appear at a later date meaning that 100% hair free is not likely. However, 90% less hair is common with hair growing back at a slower rate. Maintenance can be done as and when necessary
Dos and don’ts before treatment
Do:
- Have a patch test beforehand
- Shave both before and in between treatments Wax, pluck or thread before and during treatments as IPL will only work with hair in its growth stage, i.e., when it is still attached to the follicle
Don’t:
- Go for IPL while pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a tan during – or immediately after – treatment as it can target pigment in the skin and cause scarring
IPL hair removal at home: Yay or nay?
While at-home IPL devices are everywhere and do offer some results, they are limiting – far more so than if you had it done at a professional salon. They may be beneficial in helping you maintain your new fuzz-free skin, acting to zap away the odd hair here or there, but first and foremost you should always invest in a full course conducted by trained professionals (like us!). If the IPL hair removal system is not operated safely or correctly, you may experience some negative side effects, so not something you want to be taking a gamble on.
Make an Informed Decision
Don’t be tempted by going for the cheapest offer out there, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. And when you’re considering a more permanent solution, meaning you’ll never need to fork out on waxing, razors, epilators, and the like ever again, it really is worthwhile to pay for top quality. Prioritise the cost of the results – not the cost of treatments.
